Task 2:

Task 3:

Task 4:

Connotations & Denotations 2

In the advert for Mcdonald's we see a kid looking at the camera smiling holding a burger and behind him there is Mcdonalds and he says "Real good ...and still only 15" Him smiling connotates that he is happy we also seem him pointing towards the restaurant and on his other hand holding a burger this implies he feels happy that he bought a burger from Mcdonalds thus encouraging us to go and buy from the restaurant. Along with that he says "Real good ...and still only 15" him saying its good further encourages this idea even more as well as him listing the price making us think its cheap has the same effect upon us, us the viewer looking at this poster.

Connotations & Denotations

In the advert water aid we see a child that looks sad he stands in front of what looks to be a house and is looking at the camera with an intense look of sadness with tears forming in his eyes this connotates how he feels upset and how much he needs water along with that he represents the millions of people who are in need of water making us not just feel sad for him but for the millions of people who are in need. To add to this the words "Dig toilets Not graves" connotates the idea of instead of people doing nothing and letting them dying and digging graves, people should help get them clean water instead thus encouraging us to help and assist in this cause. Along with that the word grave can connote the idea of death thus giving us this idea of death and urgency to help fix this issue. And the words also connote the idea of doing one thing can prevent another as such "Dig toilets" basically is stating that we must provide these people with water and basic necessities that come with it to prevent death within such poor places.

Poster analysis

Language: The poster gives the names of the people who worked to produce the movie on the top whilst having the name of the movie in larger bold letters down along with the name of who originally made the idea for the movie, The cables wire and flames in the background imply that there will be chaos in the film involving flames whilst the protagonist is shown wearing a suit and tie and looking serious, this shows us the film is going to be a serious film therefore setting up our first expectations for the film
Audience: The film looks like it would be targeted for adults most likely males due to the serious tone of the film and the protagonist being male along with that this film is likely targeted to people who enjoy action films or serious films
Industry: The industry producing the film is Universal pictures and the person behind this film is Christopher Nolan, From this we already know that people are more likely to watch the film as it is made by a famous film maker

Representation: The Picture shows a adult man in a suit looking straight at the camera with a serious yet also emotionless expression thus implying that the film is going to be intense whilst behind him there seems to be wires and flames and therefore this connotates that there will be chaos and explosions this furthermore expresses the ideas that the film will be serious and intense.

EXTENTION TASK:

Why was the casting of Ncuti Gatwa a significant moment in the history of Doctor Who?

He was the first black actor to play the lead role of the doctor

What aspects of this scene do you think an audience might enjoy? List at least three things and explain why the audience would enjoy each aspect.

I believe personally that the audience would most likely enjoy the aspect of suspense at the start of the clip, the reveal of the doctor & the teleportation to the past

How is this scene constructed to tell the audience the history of Doctor Who? Think about the script, camerawork and acting.

What can you spot in Doctor Who that you will find in most television dramas? (E.g. characters, dramatic music etc.) These are called key conventions - list as many as you can think of.

A central protagonist, a companion, music to set the feel for a scene

What would a Doctor Who fan ('Whovian') like or dislike about this scene?
