Extension tasks:
1) Find three adverts that subvert gender stereotypes, post the images/links to your blog and write a paragraph about how they subvert the way women or men are usually represented in the media.
In these adverts gender stereotypes of women are subverted by representing women doing things which aren't tied to gender stereotypical roles this is done via the use of showing and representing women as cyclist and athletes doing stuff which are normally gender stereotyped about men and typically tie into the role of men furthermore adverts such as these are what help lean away from stereotypes and towards more equal representations of both male and female roles in media
2) Read this Guardian article on seven female stereotypes that were identified in Australian adverts. Do you recognise the stereotypes that the article discusses?
The stereotypes shown are targeted at the idea of gender specific roles and show that to this day stereotypes plague the media industry examples of such ideas are shown in saying men are the dominant gender and that women are weaker
3) This Guardian article reports the first adverts banned for using negative gender stereotypes. Do you think the ASA was right to ban them?
In my own opinion i believe that the ASA was partially right in banning those ads but should also consider taking further action for ads showing women in such situations
